Sami rolled over and stared at the phone listening to the ringtone programmed in for Faith. She let it go to voicemail. She wasn’t ready to talk to her. She wasn’t sure what she would say.

Yesterday had given her a lot of time to think. She called Millie in the morning and asked her to cover the store for the day, drove to the lake, and walked the shoreline.

Her stomach growled, reminding her she hadn’t eaten since supper on Monday with Faith. She dragged herself out of bed to shower and see what Tina had in the cupboard for breakfast.

When she showed up on Tina’s doorstep last night and asked if she could stay for a few days, Tina didn’t ask any questions. She just opened her home and guest bedroom to Sami.

A folded note, along with a house key sat on the counter. Her name written on the front of it told her it was for her.
